As we were driving, we saw signs for the Meteor Crater so we decided to take a look. It was a bit pricey but when will we ever get to do this again?
The desert around the crater.
These rocks were probably a mile from the crater. Sparky said they were blown out this far wen the crater hit the earth. There were rocks this size strewn all over the desert.
We forgot Winona. Too excited to get to the canyon. (Remind me to tell you a funny story about the canyon and Sparky and my phone.)
My first glimpse of the canyon. It literally took my breath away. I was in tears at the unbelievable site.
It was cloudy when we got there so some of the pictures we took were somewhat muted in the colors because the sun wasn't shining on it. There's so many more pictures that I could post but I don't wish to bore everyone with pictures of landscape. I know you're supposed to have people in your pictures and not just have pictures but I couldn't help myself.
We learned a very valuable lesson last night. Be careful about being at the canyon after dark. We ate at a nice restaurant and then headed back to the room. We were gonna take the same path that we took earlier in the day to go back to the lodge where we are staying. Problem: the pat was not lighted at night. Just knowing that that great big hole was right there next to us and it was SOOOO dark really freaked me out. Sparky had a flashlight on his phone but we both forgot about it. We finally found the shuttle pick up spot that would take us back to the lodge so we wouldn't have to wander around in the dark.
